It's kind of silly to mention it here, but we need singers! We had many people out Thursday, all for important reasons, I'm sure.

We have a pretty decent shot at showing ourselves off in the next few months, but we need bodies at every rehearsal. Plus, I know I'm having a lot of fun making the chords lock and ring!

It'd be great to have 40 on the risers this Thursday--even more, if possible! Be there if you can!

I bet the 3-4 people who actually read this will be there.

Sorry for my cynicism, but what can we do to get more people perusing this fine message board? I made this primarily for the chorus, but I wouldn't mind if barbershoppers everywhere started using this forum. Heaven knows we've got the bandwidth cause we're not using it otherwise.

Josh,

I feel you know this, but just in case - there is already a huge forum called the Harmonet that gets used all the time. I used to be on it but with dial-up it would be horrible. You have to register on Yahoo to get it. I doubt that many singer outside our group will use it much - although I am curious as to who the new user "valerie" is. I don't know any wives/girlfriends named Valerie. I have a student named Valeria but I doubt that it is her.

I also think we've got to assume that many of our members regard a computer as a vile beast that they don't want anything much to do with unless absolutely necessary. As time goes on the use of the forum will improve, I think.

Valerie is the grandmother of the guy from Franklin that we were talking to about joining. Her full name is Valerie McGowen. Several in the chorus know who she is from some time ago.

I've been on the harmonet, just don't like that type of format as well.

The format of the Harmonet was fine (at least 2004 and before - it may have changed). What I didn't care for was that it seemed to be primarily a place for folks to gripe and for kibbers to argue with everyone else about how horrible the new arrangements/songs were.

There was some guy from Montana, I think, that must have had no life at all because I would estimate that he had 10-20 posts per day. Burt Szabo would post a lot complaining about the "modern" arrangments. I'll bet since the advent of "Good Luck Charm" and "ABC" his figures are bruised from all the gripes.

Drew Kirkman actually withdrew from the Harmonet because it was so bad.

Now folks, all 5 of us, can withdraw from the Caveman forum because I've complained about the Harmonet.

The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees.
,wow gold,
The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar. It originated in the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600 BC-c. 1100 BC) from the people's sacrifice to gods and ancestors at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one.

Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts every year in the early days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the mid 1st lunar month of the next year. Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. The Chinese government now stipulates people have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year.
wow power leveling,
Many customs accompany the Spring Festival. Some are still followed today, but others have weakened.
On the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, many families make laba porridge, a delicious kind of porridge made with glutinous rice, millet, seeds of Job's tears, jujube berries, lotus seeds, beans, longan and gingko.
The 23rd day of the 12th lunar month is called Preliminary Eve. At this time, people offer sacrifice to the kitchen god. Now however, most families make delicious food to enjoy themselves.
wow gold,
After the Preliminary Eve, people begin preparing for the coming New Year. This is called "Seeing the New Year in".

Store owners are busy then as everybody goes out to purchase necessities for the New Year. Materials not only include edible oil, rice, flour, chicken, duck, fish and meat, but also fruit, candies and kinds of nuts. What's more, various decorations, new clothes and shoes for the children as well as gifts for the elderly, friends and relatives, are all on the list of purchasing.
wow gold,
Before the New Year comes, the people completely clean the indoors and outdoors of their homes as well as their clothes, bedclothes and all their utensils.
archlord gold,
Then people begin decorating their clean rooms featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity. All the door panels will be pasted with Spring Festival couplets, highlighting Chinese calligraphy with black characters on red paper. The content varies from house owners' wishes for a bright future to good luck for the New Year. Also, pictures of the god of doors and wealth will be posted on front doors to ward off evil spirits and welcome peace and abundance.
wotlk gold,
The Chinese character "fu" (meaning blessing or happiness) is a must. The character put on paper can be pasted normally or upside down, for in Chinese the "reversed fu" is homophonic with "fu comes", both being pronounced as "fudaole." What's more, two big red lanterns can be raised on both sides of the front door. Red paper-cuttings can be seen on window glass and brightly colored New Year paintings with auspicious meanings may be put on the wall.
wow gold,

Spring Festival
